LGU Gensan Prepares for Strict Speed Limit Implementation.
General Santos City (January 25, 2019) – The local government unit of General Santos is gearing up in preparation for the stricter implementation of speed limits in the city’s main roads.
The stricter speed limit implementations come in the heel of recent vehicular accidents which resulted in deaths and injuries.
Last January 17, 2019, Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera signed Executive Order No. 05, series of 2019 which provides for the strict enforcement of speed limits for motor vehicles within the territorial jurisdiction of the city.
The Mayor’s executive order is based on Section 35 and 38 of Republic Act 4136 which prescribes the maximum allowable speed for specific road classes and motor vehicles.
Under the law, the maximum allowable speed for national roads is only 60 kph, while maximum speed for city streets is 30 kph and for school zones and crowded streets, is only 20 kph.
Strict lane assignments will also be implemented under the “homogeneity of speed” provision of the executive order. This means that lane designation for each type of vehicle will be observed.
“We will slowly roll the implementation out. We will start with information dissemination so the people will know where speed limits will be implemented and we will also brief our law enforcers,” Atty. Armand Clarin of the City Legal Office said.
“Once our speed guns have arrived, then we can go with the full implementation,” he added.
Starting Monday large signages will be put up indicating speed limits in certain sections of the city where the speed limits will be enforced.
